In the United States, demand for plastic bottles continues to grow: plastic bottles and plastic cans account for around 75% of all plastic containers. The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS, Washington, DC) recently released a report on the top packaging plastics market – “Today's Plastic Bottles: Innovation for Consumers”, which is expected to include beverages, food, water, household, pharmaceutical, automotive chemicals, liquid products. And the demand for plastics in the industry will continue to grow.
According to beverage marketing company statistics, the total amount of bottled water sold in the US last year exceeded that of carbonated beverages, up 8.5% year-on-year. According to BMC's estimates, sales of plastic bottled beverages in 2016 fell by 41.2% year-on-year. In view of the growing consumer demand for plastic bottles, PLASTICS' new report reflects the trends in the plastics bottled industry in a timely manner.
Mark Garrison, PLASTICS member and senior vice president of business development, said: "The bottling division of our industry is expected to grow by 6% in the next three years. Based on this upward trend, we will exhibit NPE2018, which will show PET preforms, blow molding and molds. , labeling, filling, sealing, design and manufacturing."
Other highlights of the report:
PET and HDPE products currently account for about 86% of the plastic container market;
The largest PET bottle packaging market is a disposable mineral water bottle, which is increasingly replacing soda water and is expected to increase sales by 6% per year;
Plastic machinery shipments have increased year-on-year in the past six years;
Total equipment shipments for the full year of 2015 were $1.29 billion, an increase of 4.8% over 2014.
The study looked at the entire plastics industry and supply chain, as well as the brand and other interests in the development of plastic bottles and containers. Bottlers are currently using PET to develop lighter packaging, saving raw materials, energy and transportation costs. PET bottle designs are also more attractive for packaging and sustainability.
The report attributed the incredible growth of PET to the employment of the plastics industry, the dollar value of goods and capital expenditures. With the rapid rise of bottled products, manufacturers must focus on key bottlenecks, challenges and opportunities.
